Easy Tether iPhone 3G w/out Jailbreak

I just found out and tested the easiest way to enable tethering the 3G iPhone and thought I would share.

1.)From your iPhone, click on this .mobileconfig file.

2.)Accept and install the profile.

3.)After installation, reboot your iphone.

4.)After reboot, go to "settings>general>network>internet tethering"

5.)Toggle to "On"

6.)You'll then want to turn off wi-fi on the iPhone to use the Cellular 3G Data Network.

7.)You can then connect your laptop to the iPhone either by bluetooth or usb. Usb is recommended and provides power to the phone giving better bandwidth.

8.)Next, turn off the wi-fi adapter on the laptop and plug-in the iPhone usb dock cable.

9.)The iPhone will flash blue showing tethered. Open a browser and your online with slow DSL speed!

I just tethered and was able to use cisco and juniper VPN with no problem.

A speed test showed these speeds:

150 kb upload

New Blog!

I wanted to start a new blog to capture some of the cool concepts or problems of bleeding edge IT. Anything from Systems Engineering, Exchange, VMware, Certificate Services, and iPhones.

Feel free to respond or post...
